Team Dynamics

1.Describe how the team interactions are going for you, so far. Not the entire classroom...just between the people on your team. Would you characterize your team overall as high energy, low energy, motivated, not motivated, contentious and combative, friendly and encouraging, etc? In other words, what adjectives would you use to describe your team?

2. What makes a good leader...a GOOD leader? Have you established clear leadership on the team? Is having clear leadership in the team really needed? Meaning, when can a company be a true team of equals, instead of having one person in charge? Or is that just a myth?

3. How have conflicts been managed, so far? What has been the most effective strategy for keeping everyone on task? Why do you suppose some people are not working effectively on the team? Who would you have fired (if anyone on the team) by now and why?

4. How important are the personalities of your team members to you? Is it important that friendship is fostered in a company team? Or is it better to make everyone competitive with each other? Evaluate how your team is operating right now. What are strategies you want to try to keep everyone progressing forward in the next week?

Clarence:

The interactions between our team members are considered okay, as that is not an issue. I would say that our team is motivated while being friendly and encouraging. We were always friendly when we were interviewing people, and we were always proposing ideas when we needed other plans for our product. Although our team is friendly and motivated, it is not considered as a high energy team. At least at the moment, we haven't ex

Akhil:

1. Interactions between the people on our team are fine, since we are able to freely critique others' work and the other person is willing to listen to and accept feedback from their peers. I would characterize our team as motivated, since we are actively asking people questions related to our product and are taking the necessary steps towards having a working prototype. However, we still have a long way to go to be a team that can be categorized as high energy. We probably would have already created at least the working prototype by now, if we invested a lot more time into the process.

2. A good leader is someone who is not afraid to tell their followers what to do. A good leader is also someone who gives himself or herself a big burden if his or her peers aren't able to carry the burden. A good leader splits up work and is successful. I have established clear leadership on the team, telling people certain things to do. A company can become a true team of equals when every member of the team tries to lead in their own way.

3. Occasional conflicts that have been brought up have been resolved by making sure the person had a commitment to the team. Everyone on the team was hired because they wanted to part take in a company with the idea of a modular phone case. The most effective strategy to keep people on task was to just ask the person to stay on task, and they would likely listen. Some people might be ineffective because we don't have everyone stepping up as leaders. No, I wouldn't have fired anyone because we need the contributions of all three team members to be successful.

4. To me, I just want the team members to work equally hard, something we have struggled with in the past. Friendship from before the company team would have made it harder to be successful due to arguments, however friendship is an important thing that should be kept in a company team. If teammates are competitive with each other, though better results might be reached, there should be one common goal, to be successful. Our team is moving slightly slower than in the past, though we have decided on the one product and the parts that are needed. We should maintain the strategies of leadership and hardwork, but should drop the lack of working hard in the next week.

Michelle:

1. So far, my team interactions have been good. Our team is high energy, very motivated, and sometimes contentious, but mostly friendly. Although we've had disagreements from time to time, our team is hard working, and cooperative. We solved our quarrels by talking it out, and choosing the best idea. One word to describe our team interactions is hardworking. We each do our part of the project, and contribute equally to our slides.

2. A good leader listens to his/her teams ideas, and is supportive of them. I don't think I have established leadership, but I don't think I haven't either. Personally, I feel that I am in the middle. In the team, leadership isn't very necessary because we all work together. There's really no dominance over superiority, so I don't really think it's needed. The company is almost always just a team of equals.

3. Conflicts have been resolved by talking it out, and agreeing to one idea, or combining ideas. Our group doesn't fight much but the most effective strategy to keep everyone on task is just to tell them to work on what is most important. I wouldn't fire anyone in the team because they all work hard and contribute to the project.

4. The personalities of my team members are hardworking and, yes, I do believe that friendship is important in a company team. If you are unable to communicate with your team members comfortably, then you can't get any work done. It's not better competitive because you'll try so hard to be the best that there will be no teamwork done. Our team is not competitive, we talk to each other and don't argue often. Strategies to keep everyone progressing forward next week is just to stay on task, and not to get off topic.
